From Valhalla to SPARK AI: Why We Built It
For the last two years, we have been building something bigger than a website.
We started with Valhalla. It was an idea built around strength, resilience and refusing to let hard circumstances decide what happens next. That same spirit became SPARK AI: a learning platform built for families who want to give their children more support, more confidence and more opportunity.
Because for us, education has never been theoretical.
I am raising ten children. Five are in high school. Five are being educated at home. Two are autistic. Every child learns differently, needs different things, has different strengths and has days when life gets in the way.
As a parent, you see what a report, timetable or school meeting cannot always show. You see when your child is anxious but trying. You see when they understand the work but cannot explain it under pressure. You see when they need extra time, a different explanation, a bit of structure, or simply someone patient enough to go over it again.
That is why SPARK AI had to be built for parents and children together.
Not for a classroom system. Not for a one-size-fits-all revision app. Not for families who can afford private tutoring every week.
We built it for:
- The parent sitting at the kitchen table late at night, trying to work out how to help.
- The child who has fallen behind and thinks they are not clever.
- The home-educating family trying to create routine.
- The young person aiming for the top grades but needing the right support to get there.
And we built it while life was at its hardest.
We moved home after losing Iona to pneumonia. We built it through grief. We built it while our children were grieving too—at a time when most families would expect concentration, confidence and schoolwork to suffer.
But we kept going.
We made plans. We created lessons. We found ways to make learning feel possible again. We worked with our children day after day, subject after subject, building confidence back up one small win at a time.
This year, our children achieved A’s and B’s across their exams.
That is not a story about perfect parenting or a magic app. It is proof of what can happen when children are given consistent support, clear structure and someone who refuses to give up on them.
SPARK AI grew from that experience.
It brings together personalised AI tutors, weekly timetables, lesson planning, lesson generation and learning resources in one place. It supports children from primary age through GCSE, A-level, National 5 and Highers. Most importantly, it keeps the parent in control.
The knowledge is already out there. The technology is already here.
What families need is a simple way to use it: to understand where their child is, plan what comes next, and help them improve without the stress, confusion or cost that too often comes with extra support.
SPARK AI is not just another AI tool.
It is built by a family that understands what learning looks like when life is messy, when children need more, and when giving up is not an option.
We built it for our children first. Now we are building it for yours.
